G1A-8 Preview: Could we have a first-time team champion is wide open district?
Kabra Wrestling Rankings are updated every week all season long for Kabra+ members.
Last season: Hernando’s nine seniors powered them to a comfortable win in the district.
How did Kabra do?: We knew Hernando would be tough to beat and we spotted Sunlake correctly in at number two.

Recent district results: 2025:2; 2024:2; 2023:5; 2022:4-1A9
Last state champion: Kristy More, 2025 (145)
Notable losses (Graduation/Transfer): Kristy More, 37-1, SC, RC, DC; Julia Brocato, 19-10, 8th, R2, D2; Izabella Kullman, 22-15, 8th, R2, D2.
Notable returning wrestlers: Paisley Murphy, Sr., 29-9, 5th, R2, D2; Cameron Lord, Jr., 46-15, 5th, R4, D2; Gabrielle Asabi, Sr., 34-10, 8th, R2, DC; Malia Rezac, Jr., 18-18, RQ-BR, DC; Camilla Alderman, Jr., 17-11, RQ-BR, D4; Chloe Fletcher, Jr., 7-12, RQ, D4; Jaylin Fuentes, Jr., 15-7.
What they are saying: “ I think the sky's is the limit for this team this year. I'd like to say we're going to surprise some people, but I know we're on people's radar. It's just my thing with the girls this year doesn't matter where you're ranked. It doesn't matter where people think you should be finishing at. I want them to come in with a chip on their shoulder. We're still underdogs and we're here to take first. And that's how we're approaching every tournament we go to. And I think the results are going to show for themselves at the end of the year.”
On building a culture: “I'm coming in and I'm giving this program identity. This is the Lady Seahawks. We have our own practice routines. I'm giving this program and I'm giving the girls the keys to do this is build their own identity here, where it's not just we got a couple good girls on the Sunlake wrestling team. We have a great Sunlake girls wrestling program and once they've all bought into that culture, I believe everything else follows, and we give them all the tools that they need.
On long term plan: “ I know we're already on people's radar, but I don't think we are to the extent of what people are expecting. And that's what I look forward to is just continuing to build this program to where it's not just one or two good years, but we continue to bring girls in and develop them to where this is a continuation every year and that's what I look forward to the most. I think that's what people are going to be seeing over the next couple years is we're not just a flash in the pan. That this is something we're going to be here for a long time.”
Outlook: Gee takes over a program that has had success and is looking to continue that run on the individual and team level. Lord and Murphy both return after placing in the state tournament a year ago and each could reach the top of the podium this season.

What they are saying: "We have pretty good numbers. To be honest, I haven't really coached them very hard just because I want them to compete. I just want them to wrestle. I just want them to fall in love with it. The three girls that we have coming back that qualified for regionals, and we have another girl that qualified for regionals the year before, but didn't qualify last year, the three that qualified last year, they love it."

Notable losses (Graduation/Transfer): Jasmine Serrano, 29-3, 3rd, R2, DC.
Notable returning wrestlers: Kayla Blohm, Jr., 12-10, RQ, D3; Sara Zuba, So., 4-10, RQ, D4.
What they are saying: “I encourage these girls to come out and the funny thing is we have some athletic girls at Springstead. I mean, you've got to see our girls flag football team. It's ridiculous. And I'm like, ‘Hey, you guys want to wrestle?’ and I really thought with Jasmine's group that this is a building block and there's going to be more that are going to follow behind and I barely get any girl. I just got one new girl that came out yesterday.”
On Kayla Blohm: “She knows how to wrestle. She's sweet as pie. I told her that she has to learn how to be mean. I said, you can be as sweet as you want after, but you need to learn how to be mean.’ She's coming into her junior year and I'm expecting big things from her.”
On Sara Zuba: “She came out and she is quiet and I swear to God, I did not expect her to stay out and she has bought in. I'm noticing and this is what I enjoy about coaching more than anything is giving these kids a sense of purpose and confidence. Before she'd walk with her head down, her shoulders are hunched over, not looking at anybody in the face. She wouldn't really say anything at practice. Now she's walking and her chest is out, her shoulders are back, she's got her head up, she looks at people, she has conversations like that. For me personally, that's one of my biggest rewards is seeing these kids and how they can find themselves through wrestling.”
Outlook: It’s not a team with big numbers, but it was some wonderful stories in it and should see some success.
