BY BRANT PARSONS β€”

Kabra Wrestling Rankings are updated every week all season long for Kabra+ members.

Last season: It was a repeat win for South Broward, as they slipped past Western by 14 points.

How did Kabra do?: We picked South Broward to win with their full line-up and six region returners and they proved us right.

What they are saying: β€œI mean I have a pretty high outlook for our girls team. We’ve got all of our other girls back returning in our lineup that are super tough and can win a state title and there's a couple new girls too in our lineup. There are three or four girls in our team that can make it all the way through to the finals and possibly win. I feel like our girls team is kind of being slept on a little bit, which I get, but I think towards the middle of the season, people are going to see the girls that we have and we're going to be up there in the mix.”

On girls finding own identity: β€œThere's always that little battle between the girls and the boys team but I feel like our girls team they're starting to find their own identity as themselves. That’s hard to do, but I feel like they've kind of found their identity, there's a couple new girls in our lineup that people have never even heard of but they're good. Trust me, they're gonna do really well.”

Outlook: Everybody is back and there has been depth added to a Bears team that seems to be on an upward trajectory.

New wrestlers: Zoey Catala

On Makayla Ocean: β€œI met her in my biology class and she said, β€˜Hey, I'm thinking about wrestling.’ I recruit heavily out of my ninth grade biology class and she was one of the kids that I was able to pull out. Michaela's a Haitian-American and that community has a solid work ethic and is outstanding in all areas and it reflects itself on the mat. Her parents are super supportive. They're like, β€˜Hey, coach, where do we need to go next?’ It's her family number one and then her work ethic to buy into has been outstanding and I'm really excited about her potential.”

Outlook: Ocean and VIllavicencio have had great offseasons and have the talent and drive to finish this year high on the podium.
