3A-2 Preview: Top teams looking for another explosive district title race
Kabra Wrestling Rankings are updated every week all season long for Kabra+ members.
Last season: Buchholz won one of the tightest district races in the state last year, with Derryl Godbolt securing the team win with a pin in the 285-pound finals. The Bobcats edged Flagler Palm Coast by 4.5 points.
How did Kabra do?: We nearly had a perfect set of predictions with just 3 and 4 being flipped in the real results.

Recent district results: 2025:1; 2024:1; 2023:2; 2022:2; 2021:1; 2020:2; 2019:2-3A1; 2018:3-3A1; 2017:5-3A1; 2016:3-3A1; 2015:3-3A1; 2014:3-3A1; 2013:4-3A1; 2012:7-3A1
Last state champion: Cavarius Liddie, 2023 (132), Kason Nichols, 2023 (195)
Notable losses (Graduation/Transfer): Finn Buchanan, 56-9, SQ, RC, DC; Laine Slayton, 40-14, SQ, R2, D2; Hugh Davis, 38-20, RQ, D2.
Notable returning wrestlers: Derryl Godbolt, Sr., 42-9, 6th, RC, DC; Gabriel Brown, Sr., 32-12, SQ, R3, DC; Dylan Leamon, Jr., 34-19, RQ-BR, D3; Prince Fortuna, Sr., 33-18, RQ-BR, DC; William Buchanan, Sr., 26-11, RQ, D2; Sullivan Harkins, Jr., 39-17, RQ, D3; Braedon McGuigan, Sr., 27-19, RQ, D3; Cody Rich, So., 27-20, RQ, D4; Stefan Behrmann, Sr., 20-15, RQ, D4; Jason Sebree, Sr., 24-15, RQ, D4.
What they are saying: “We have a lot of kids that are just rising sophomores and rising juniors that were kind of chomping at the bit to get in the lineup. So, it'll be different. It won't be as much talent, but, in the long run, we think we'll be pretty good. What's a little bit unique for us is we feel really comfortable about 13 of our 14 weight classes right now.”
On Derryl Godbolt: “ Our heavyweight’s improvement every year has been paramount. We think he's made that big step. He made a big step last year where he was winning and winning and all a sudden we're looking around like, man, you got a chance to be a qualifier. You got a chance to be a placer. And he finishes six. Now we feel like we have a legitimate shot to be the best at it.”
On Prince Fortuna: “He is a kid that has made these huge jumps every year last year in regions he got defensive pinned with 10 seconds left and then he wrestled the blood round ejected and lost. I think in the long run, that helped us out and he's really hungry and that he's be one of those kids that if he's a top five finisher I wouldn't be surprised. I think the goal is to get him to state tournament, but he's one of those guys that he has gotten way better and I think he's going to be the guy that takes that huge leap where he's like, he wasn't a qualifier. Maybe he gets on the podium somewhere next year."
Outlook: The Bobcats have built a culture as a program that the next man up is ready to step in and this team returns a group of region qualifiers that are hungry to improve and lead this team to a three-peat in district competition.

What they are saying: “I've been with the program for eight years officially, slightly off and on before then, just kind of volunteering, but this year will be the first year I'm taking over as head coach and dealing with all the extra nonsense. It's a lot more than just being an assistant, just focusing on wrestling. It's going to be interesting. We graduated quite a few kids last year, so we're almost starting fresh, which has its own challenges, but its own unique charms when taking over.”
On Gerald Logan: “I think he still sees himself as a chaser instead of the guy being chased. It's nice having a kid that's in our district that's a kid we see a lot that is above him still. He's not a shoe-in for district, he's not a shoe-in for region, and even though he's in a pretty good spot to place at every step of the way, there's someone that he's still kind of eyeballing and still kind of chasing and I think that leads to keeping him hungry and keeping him wanting it for not just states but every step.”
On being head coach for first time: “It's going to be interesting. I've had many ideas for if I was head coach, what I would kind of like to do or what direction I'd like to go with the kids and how I would run practices. I’ve been taking some good from different coaches I've been around or the like and keeping an eye on some of the stuff I wasn't as keen on. I think just finding that balance and trying to take my experience through the years I've coached wrestling as well as just the many years coaching MMA and coaching ju-jitsu and stuff like that and what I've learned through that process as well.”
Outlook: DeLand graduated 9 of its 14 wrestlers in the postseason lineup last season. It allows Lohsen to get a clean slate on most of the group, but it will also be a younger team this season than it has been.
Forest Wildcats
Coach: Jeremy Burd (2nd season)
Assistant coaches: Coach Fronius, Coach Markham
Recent district results: 2025:6; 2024:7; 2023:7; 2022:5; 2021:7; 2020:6; 2019:6-2A5; 2018:5-2A5; 2017:6-2A5; 2016:5-2A5; 2015:8; 2014:7; 2013:6; 2012:7
Notable losses (Graduation/Transfer): Ellis Lawson, 28-9, RQ, D3.
Notable returning wrestlers: Skyler Hackl, Sr., 26-8, RQ-BR, D3; Uriah Fackler, Jr., 28-10, RQ, DC; Nate Silva, Sr., 22-13, RQ, D3.
What they are saying: “We are working to go back-to-back county champs, place at district duals, have multiple placers at district and region, and have three qualifiers for state, at least.”
Outlook: Nearly the entire postseason lineup is back for Forest.
Orange City University Titans
Coach: Matt Weaver (10th season, 20th overall)
Assistant coaches: Jacob Mungo, Pete Meyers
Recent district results: 2025:7; 2024:6; 2023:8; 2022:7; 2021:3; 2020:3; 2019:6-3A3; 2018:6-3A3; 2017:7-3A3; 2016:9-3A3; 2015:2-3A3; 2014:5-3A3; 2013:2; 2012:5
Notable losses (Graduation/Transfer): None
Notable returning wrestlers: Marquise Harris-El, Sr.; Sebastian Hayes, Sr.; Justin Kurtz, Sr.; Eli Nichols, Sr.; Ivan Rua, Sr.; Paul Shepherd, Sr.
What are they saying: “I know it's not starting over because there are a lot of hungry kids. We are just looking for consistency and patience and showing up every day and asking the kids to do the same thing, And I think if the coaches and the kids can all do that, I think we'll get to where we're competing with everyone at the top.”
On kids buying in: “We've got a group of 15 to 20 kids that have from day one when I stepped on the mat last year in the spring, they've been committed to us all the way through till now. We took eight kids up to Pennsylvania this summer and did a camp up there and I mean, I could list off all 15 or 20 of them and I'm definitely excited.”
On what brought him back to coaching: “I never lost love for the sport. I've been here at the school ever since I stepped down. And a former athlete of mine, his son was a freshman last year and another athlete of mine was an assistant last year. Those two were big draws. Then my wife last year during Christmas break said ‘You need to get back into coaching.’ So, here I am.”
On optimism: “Am I going to put any claims out there, and am I going to say South Dade, watch out, and Lake Gibson? No, I'm not going to make those claims yet, but we've got a very promising future.”
Outlook: Weaver is back coaching and is looking to bring back Titans wrestling after some down years in the program.

Notable losses (Graduation/Transfer): Ethen Crews, 40-18, RQ, D2; David Hill, 31-13, RQ, D3; Harrison Caputo, 25-11, D6; Prince Valentine, 10-5.
Potential notable returning wrestlers: Mathew Pishotta, Sr., 32-10, RQ, D2; Maximus Hutchinson, So., 28-24, RQ, D4; Antanas Killen, Sr., 21-23, RQ, D4.
Outlook: The Wolf Pack graduated more than half of their postseason lineup but still have some guys back who can go deep into the postseason.
