3A-15 Preview: Loaded Columbus looking for district four-peat this season
Kabra Wrestling Rankings are updated every week all season long for Kabra+ members.
Last season: Columbus earned district IBT title number three in the past three years with a commanding performance. The district was tightly bunched from #2-4, but the Explorers outshone them all.
How did Kabra do?: We picked Columbus to win under coach Grant and they proved us right.

What they are saying: "These kids work super hard. They are experienced. My two Russians are state placers. They're very tough kids and naturally I think they're stronger suit is freestyle and Greco, but we've been doing a good job as a coaching staff adjusting and getting them to adjust and learn the techniques of folk style and the ins and outs of our American style of wrestling."
On the Ingraham kids: "If Lajuan's on, he's hard to beat. He's a two-time Florida national team member now. He wrestled some tough kids. He's beat a lot of state placers from out of state and I'm excited to see about him as well. His younger brother, Ezekiel, is here now too. These are my sister's kids that I've been having them on the mat since they were little kids so they know wrestling."
On depth: "We have some young kids and some other returners that maybe aren't as prominent as the three kids that are state qualifiers already. They're not as talented and as experienced as these kids, but there's some young kids that are hungry and working hard and I'm super excited for them."
Outlook: Russian brothers Adlan and Imran Dzhabrailov both return after finishing last season on the podium and look to move up it this year.

What they are saying: “What we're trying to do with the kids now is have them work super hard because we understand that we have a lot of catching up to do as far as the competition since we know we're not one of the schools that have a club or a kids feeder program. Most of our kids are starting right off of high school, freshman year, sophomore year, junior year and we tried to teach them that hard nose Miami high style that we used to have back when we wrestled. Our guys weren't the most experienced, but they had heart and they come out and fight, and the work ethic we build on these guys is really giving them the confidence to do really good this season.”
On the junior class: “Three athletes with us have been with us since their freshman year. We initially started our program not last season, but the season before that, but since we weren't registered in FHSAA, we were considered an independent team. So technically that season doesn't count. For us, it did because we basically started training the guys since then and having them compete. We're excited to see what these juniors are looking to bring in this year. They got a little bit of taste last year of what it was to actually compete in the district tournament. And then we took two of them to the regional tournament and they saw what it really was to be in that postseason because they didn't understand it.”
On Leonardo Mendoza reaching blood round: “He was devastated with loss. That loss ate at him. Now, there's a difference between an athlete and a competitor. I see Leo as a competitor. He understands that, hey, I might not be the most experienced kid out here, but he doesn't care. He's a hard-nosed kid. He's a dog. He's going to go out and he's going to fight. And that loss really drove into him and he hasn't stopped working since. A week after that regional loss we were back in the practice room going at it while everyone else was at states.”
Outlook: The coaching staff has returned to their alma mater to restore glory to the wrestling room and they have some promising starting pieces to work with.
