3A-9 Preview: Harmony looking to crest the top again in challenging district

BY BRANT PARSONS

Kabra Wrestling Rankings are updated every week all season long for Kabra+ members.

Last season: This district title race went down to the end and a big decider was Deacon Delong’s win at 190 pounds for eventual champion Kissimmee Osceola, who edged Harmony by 4.5 points.

How did Kabra do?: We did say this was going to be a great race for the team title, we just picked the wrong team to win it.

Recent district results: 2025:4; 2024:3; 2023:7; 2022:3; 2021:3; 2020:5; 2019:5-3A4; 2018:4-3A4; 2017:5-3A4; 2016:4-3A4; 2015:5-3A4; 2014:3-3A4; 2013:2-3A4; 2012:4-3A4

What they are saying: “Our senior leadership this year is good. I'm really hoping that that carries over throughout the season, and keeps building. The kids we're looking at as captains are four-year wrestlers who are really dedicated to the program. We're just hoping that they keep working and encouraging these kids along.”

On Angel Legrand: “He'll be a four-year senior this year. He's worked hard all off season. He's done all the things He's wrestled the tough kids and he's starting to win those tough matches. We're really hoping this is the year that he can break through into placing at regions and get to states.”

On always being a young team: “When the majority of the team is younger, you're constantly going back and having to reteach the basics over and over and over again, so you're never quite getting to that point where you're really polishing those varsity guys, It's just kind of tough.”

Outlook: Four returning seniors return to lead a young overall team that will have a full line-up. The team will be looking to gain more experience but they do have a great chemistry and work ethic in the room. Cypress Creek hasn’t had a state qualifier in three years and hope to change that this season.
