3A-1 Preview: Three-team looking to outpoint each other in district tourney
Kabra Wrestling Rankings are updated every week all season long for Kabra+ members.
Last season: Tocoi Creek qualified 10 wrestlers to the region tournament and had four champions to edge runners-up Fletcher by 20 points and Creekside by 20.5.
How did Kabra do?: We picked Creekside to win a third straight district title and had the champion Toros in the fourth spot before the season.

24-25 dual record: 14-4
Recent district results: 2025:3; 2024:1; 2023:1; 2022:2; 2021:2; 2020:3; 2019:2-2A4; 2018:2-2A4; 2017:1-2A4; 2016:2-2A4; 2015:2-2A4; 2014:1-2A4; 2013:3-2A3; 2012:2-2A3
Last state champion: Shane Carpenter, 2013 (195)
Notable losses (Graduation/Transfer): Cole Anderson, 18-5, 5th, R3, DC; Jonathan Morrison, 41-5, 8th, RC, DC; Colton Leavell, 9-3, SQ, R2, DC; Justin Umali, 22-13, RQ, D2; Stephan Carrion, 24-9.

New wrestlers: Killian Lonergan, Jr., 42-12, SQ, R4, D2 (Transfer from Fletcher)
What they are saying: “We want to repeat as the district dual champions all the way to the state championship and reclaim this district IBT championship, return up to six wrestlers to the state tournament and get three on the podium.”
On scheduling: “That's why we do the tournaments that we do to get them ready for that. I tell them, I'm not preparing you for now and I don’t care if you win a match all year. It's about district, regional, and states. That's what our goal is, to get you guys there and once you guys get to states, that's on you. We're here now. What else you want to do? Do you just want to be here or do you want to work to do something?”
On returning state qualifier Manghisi: “I’m extremely excited for him. He's really put the mat time in this summer and it's really showed. I think he's going to have a really good season.”
Outlook: With five starters missing last season come district time, the Knights still almost pulled off a three-peat of district IBT titles. The district does continue to get tougher and while the Knights remain the team to beat in the district duals, they’ll need to stay healthy and come up big at the end.

What they are saying: “This year's team has been through the ringer, competing at tough tournaments during the off season such as Poseidon and Knockout Summer Slam. There are quite a few wrestlers that inspire each other to get better each week and we are excited to see their individual progression compared to their last year's results.”
On goals this season: “Our goal is to reclaim our district title, qualify for the regional tournament and qualify for the state dual tournament. We have a couple missing weight classes that could play a factor into our team's success, so it is our job to find new wrestlers and prepare them to fill those weight classes.”
Outlook: A solid senior class is gone and there will be a few holes to fil. If the Knights are able to do it, they’ll be in the race in 3A-1.
Nease Panthers
Coach: Bradley Lucas (7th season/13th overall)
Assistant coaches: Phil Mauro, Olivia Carr, Jacob Satterfield, Eric Albert, Chuck Rutan
Recent district results: 2025:7; 2024:5; 2023:5; 2022:3; 2021:6; 2020:5; 2019:6-2A4; 2018:3-2A4; 2017:3-2A4; 2016:4-2A4; 2015:5-2A4; 2014:5-2A4; 2013:9-2A3; 2012:11-2A3
Last state champion: David Bell, 2010 (189), Chris Taylor, 2010 (171)
Notable losses (Graduation/Transfer): Brady Stoutamire, 30-5, SQ, R3, DC; Jason Choi, 20-11, SQ, R4, D3.
Notable returning wrestlers: Dane Hofman, Jr., 17-14, RQ, D3; Sebastian Kiss, Sr.; Zachary Lim; John O’Dwyer, So.
What they are saying: “This year’s team is all about GRIT, which stands for Gratitude, Resilience, Integrity, and Toughness. They show up hungry to improve and push each other every day. We may not have the biggest lineup, but we take pride in being the most prepared, disciplined, and hardest to break. This group is raising the standard for Nease Wrestling.”
On Sebastian Kiss: “ We're blessed to have him as one of our captains. He is a four-year wrestler for us. His first year coming in, he never had wrestled before and he lost every single match his freshman year. The next year he came back, he got a little better. Last year he was a regular starter for us on varsity. He missed out on the regional tournament just barely because he's in a tough weight class. He's been to camps, he's been working in the off season and he's much improved this year. So when he starts to talk to the kids and tell them that coach does this for this reason and this reason, you should do it, too and that's the example.”
On program buy-in: “We have four paid coaches and out of the four paid coaches, three of them are Nease alumni. They're giving back to the school that gave them so much. I'm the only one that's not an alumnus, but my graduating school is in our district. I just think it's really neat that they decide that they want to come back and that they really want to give back to their school and their team and it's just wonderful.”
Outlook: The Panthers graduated two state placers, but they bring back most of the rest of their starters this season.

Last state champion: Billy Osborne, 1997 (171)
Notable losses (Graduation/Transfer): Christian Ryan, 32-14, RQ, D4.
Notable returning wrestlers: Brendan Warren, Sr., 41-11, RQ, D4; Jason Repper, Sr., 28-16, RQ, D4; Mark Eychner, So., RQ, D5; Braxton Whitehead.
What they are saying: “We are building a strong culture and developing a program of excellence on and off the mat.”
Outlook: It’s year two for Stensurd and the team brings back most of its lineup for a year ago. They could be primed to take the next step in their resurgence.
