What they are saying: “When coach Croskey got here, the girls program was pretty small. We were just trying to fill a lineup. There were points where we had 15 girls who never even wrestled before coming in. So it's super exciting when you kind of look down the lineup we have now.”
On testing this team early: “We have a lot of girls who had winning records last year who were young sophomores, juniors, and now after a full offseason, wrestling in the spring, wrestling in the summer, they don't necessarily know it yet. They see the competition in the room and they're not sure how much better they're getting, but as soon as they step on the mat, they're going to understand how much better they got over this offseason. They're going to take some lumps at that beginning of the year, but that's a team to watch out in the second half.”

Ronnie's been at practice all summer and Sariah's been traveling the country all summer. Her mom is really supportive, so she's been pretty much everywhere wrestling.”
Outlook: Cypress Creek has had girls wrestling since the 1990s and are hoping to see their numbers build back up this year with some veteran leadership and renewed interest in the student body.

What they are saying: “Emily's back this year. She had been with our program before last year, which was my first year as head coach as a whole. When I found out that we didn't have a sanctioned girls team, that was one of the first things I did. She works very hard and I wanted to make sure she had the opportunity for postseason events. Currently we've been having some signups. We're hoping to grow those numbers and have a team outside of just her and it looks like we've got about 10 other kids signed up for girls right now. So it's trending in the right direction. We hope to keep picking up some more, but she's been great for us kind of carrying the torch.”
On Emily Frantzen: “I know she has aspirations of wrestling at the next level and she's been putting in some good work this summer. One of the main goals that we have for her is just to get some more competitions under her belt. That's something we've been focused on this offseason is getting her more mat time. When she first got started with the sport, she didn't get too many competition opportunities. Now we've got a schedule loaded up for her and the other girls that are going to be with the team. So she'll have a lot of opportunities to compete.”
Outlook: The Villages look to be more than a one woman show and are bringing in numbers to introduce to the sport and see this team grow.
