1A-11 Preview: Lemon Bay chasing double-digits in consecutive team titles

BY BRANT PARSONS

Kabra Wrestling Rankings are updated every week all season long for Kabra+ members.

Last season: Lemon Bay was a younger squad last year but the Manta Rays still won their ninth-straight district crown.

How did Kabra do?: Boca Ciega’s push past Bayshore to take second was a minor shakeup to our predictions.

Last state champion: Bert Hartmann, 1990 (152), Trevor Johnson, 1990 (160)

Notable losses (Graduation/Transfer): Jayden Shannon, 47-10, 8th, RC, DC; Raymond Rivera-Colon, 33-14, RQ, DC.

Notable returning wrestlers: Broc Dahlin, Jr., 53-5, 3rd, R2, D2; Yanuel Pantoja, Sr., 26-10, RQ-BR, D2; Noah McCarthy, Jr., 24-15, RQ, DC; Jeremiah Coleman, Jr., 20-8, RQ, D2; Gabriel Hartman, So., 19-19, RQ, D4.

What they are saying: We have a pretty young but experienced team this year. Yanuel is our only senior. We got five core kids coming back including Broc, and he's had a really good off season. It's exciting but also got some work to do and do the right things and make sure everything works out where the way it should.

On Broc: "He's a different kid. His life revolves around wrestling. He's always looking for opportunities to wrestle the best kids. He only wants to wrestle the best kids. He gets very annoyed when we go to a tournament and there's not at least one top guy there and that's what kind of separates him from the other better kids is he doesn't want to hide from anybody, he only wants to wrestle the best. If it was up to him, he'd get every one and two in every classification every weekend and he'd be happy with it. He has the drive to not only be the best, but prove that he's the best is what really puts him over the top from the other kids."

On getting wrestlers ready: "I always like to foster an environment of being excited to compete. There's nothing to be anxious for. We bust our butts five, six days a week to go out there and perform, so when it's time to perform, put that smile on your face, throw your music on, and get ready to scrap. There's no reason to be nervous. That's what we prepare for. And if you prepare the right way, you should be excited to show off what you've been working towards."

Outlook: The program continues to build these season with five wrestlers coming back who at least reached the regions last year. Dahlin has placed second and third in his two high school seasons and will be looking for that top rung on the podium this year.

Notable losses (Graduation/Transfer): Milo Klaustermeier, 34-7, RQ, D2; Abraham Robinson, 11-12, RQ, D2; Keondrick Woods, 23-19, RQ, D3; Kemuri Safford, 28-12, RQ, D3; Nate Lauser, 22-20, RQ, D4; Kemarian Albert, 24-16, RQ, D4; Roderick Rowe, 33-13, RQ, D4.

Notable returning wrestlers: Arthur Cloud, Sr., 32-14, RQ, D2; Christian Collins-Murray, Sr., 14-5, RQ, D3; Jakhari Jones, Sr., 20-14, RQ, D4; Andre Steavpack, Sr., 14-9.

New wrestler: Trenton Lindsay, Sr., 44-11, 7th, R3, DC (Transfer from Sunlake); Danario Cromartie, Fr.

What they are saying: “I would characterize this team as young, but not in a total rebuild sense. They've shown up to every meeting we have had and shown up for conditioning. We ought to find a couple diamonds in that amount of people.”

On goals: “We hope to repeat at least as team runner up at district duals and districts, and qualify one guy for state.”

Outlook: The Pirates said goodbye to a deep senior class and will be building from within to fill those holes.

Lakewood Spartans

What they are saying: “Now that Lexander, Kaleb and Damari have gone on to college we are in a rebuilding phase somewhat, we do expect that we will do well this season in some individual weight classes.”

On Coleman-Tunsil’s legacy: “Every year Lakewood's Wrestling team has grown bigger. The team is now officially recognized as a competitive wrestling team within our county, district, and region and thanks to Lexander Cole-Tunsil, now the state of Florida because of his efforts in becoming a 2025 State runner-up in the 220 -pound weight class

Outlook: The team finished with two state placers last season with Coleman-Tunsil reaching the state final. There are some holes to fill in the line-up now but some wrestlers who are ready for the challenge are in the room.
