BY BRANT PARSONS

Kabra Wrestling Rankings are updated every week all season long for Kabra+ members.

Last season: Wellington continued to be the queen of this district, winning a fourth straight and doing it in style, scored 62 points more than runner-up Coral Springs.

How did Kabra do?: We were right on the top, and close on some of the top performances.

24-25 dual record: 4-0

Recent district results: 2025:1; 2024:1; 2023:1; 2022:1

Notable losses (Graduation/Transfer): Sofia Toledo, 30-11, 8th, R4, D2; Morgan Suniga, 15-6, RQ, DC; Cristal Alcocer, D6; Emma Kosza, Jr., 29-10, SQ, R2, DC (Moved to Michigan).

Notable returning wrestlers: Lana Loucks, Sr., 26-14, SQ, R4, D3; Kylie Walshe, Sr., 22-9, RQ-BR, D2; Lani Santana, So., 25-10, RQ-BR, D3; Alyssa Garcia, Jr., 3-4, RQ, DC; Kassarah Cadavid, Sr., 21-10, RQ, D2; Maia Ioselli, So., 9-12, RQ, D2; Aspen Eagle, So., 7-7, RQ, D4.

What they are saying: “We have 22 on the roster. I would say 15 of them are 125 and below. The room is awesome. They've been amazing. They’re at our club practices, the lower weights, they've been consistently working hard. They're great practice partners for each other. It's going to be a little bit of a stretch in there, but I said, they're working hard. They're ready and you know that other than the few seniors, we should have a group crew coming back on that side as well.”

Outlook: The Wolverines have been the dominant team in the district and that shouldn’t change this year. They have numbers, but there are some logjams in the lineup. If they can find a few more upper weights, they will again have a full team.

Recent district results: 2025:3; 2024:2; 2023:2; 2022:6-1A15

Last state champion: Gabriela Caro, 2024 (130)

Notable losses (Graduation/Transfer): None

Notable returning wrestlers: Ariana Blanc, Sr., 29-4, 4th, R3, DC; Emily Balk, Sr., 6-5, RQ, D2; Kaylee Barthel, Jr., 14-12, RQ, D3; Mickayla Sugrano, Sr., 7-6, RQ, D3; Addison McMahon, Jr., RQ, D3; Haasini Vattikuti, Sr., 9-8, RQ, D4; Olivia Yakich, So., 14-14, RQ, D5; Veronika Kushnir.

New wrestler: Zeinab Mourad, Fr.

What they are saying: “They're still coming together. We have pretty close to 20 signed up. It's really just to make sure they all stick it out through the year. If they all stick it out through the year, I think we can fill almost every single weight class. I think they could potentially win the BCAAs again. They won it two years ago and took second last year.”

On Ariana Blanc: “She's been working really hard. She wrestles year round so she just has to be ready. She just needs to know when she gets to states, she can't make any mistakes. Obviously we don't know other girls that could be in the weight class, but at least the girl that's ranked number one ahead of her is a girl we're familiar with her style a little bit, which helps out.”

On Zeinab Mourad’s big summer: “Honestly, this was a surprise to us even. I didn't really know who she was until probably about four months ago. She's just one of those that she was going to American Top Team for a year but just never competed in the offseason until now. She comes in with a little bit of experience, but somehow she's just finding way to ways to wrestle and win these matches. “

Outlook: Seven region qualifiers are back for the Eagles who could field 14 wrestlers by season’s end, led by state placer Blanc and highly-ranked Mourad.

Coral Springs Colts (NR, #24)

Recent district results: 2025:5

Notable losses (Graduation/Transfer): None

Notable returning wrestlers: Allison Blanco-Cruz, Sr., 12-8, 8th, R4, DC; Paola Blanco-Cruz, Sr., 13-5, RQ, D2; Lyla Kasztner, So., 13-8, RQ, D3; Litan Aminov, Jr., 4-13, RQ, D3; Maria Alcantara, Jr., 2-7, RQ, D3; Mary Huling.

On the Blanco-Cruz sisters: “These are two just unbelievably quiet girls when I had them in class, but I could tell by the way they participated with the boys and with the other girls that they just had it in them. I mean, they're as tough as any wrestlers I've ever coached or at least in recent memory. Allison put on her goal sheet that she loves the torture of the sport. Honestly you have to reel her in sometimes. She's training that hard.”

On Lyla Kasztner: “She missed state by a match as a freshman, but she's already climbing up Kabra’s rankings right now. She's an animal. She misses nothing. She listens to everything and she's a sponge and she's hungry and she's ready to keep climbing that ladder.”

Outlook: The Lions had a fantastic debut season with the team finishing in the Top 5 of the district. With the whole team back, expect even more this year.

Outlook: The room is growing and the team had just one senior graduate from last year’s team. Cheresmisina will look to improve on last year’s showing and find a ticket to Kissimmee.

Recent district results: 2025:6; 2024:6; 2022:9

Notable losses (Graduation/Transfer): Aubrey Brunnett, 14-6, SQ, R3, DC.

Notable returning wrestlers: Sara Newell, Sr., 14-4, SQ, R3, D2; Chloe Scrocca, So., RQ, D4.

What they are saying: “I think the biggest piece for Sarah is going to be consistency and an increased level of aggression and grit to go after it. I think she's poised to do it. She's worked hard in the off season and it's clicking that she's got to move and piece those pieces together and that's going to make a big difference for her.”

Outlook: Newell reached Kissimmee last year for the first time and is wanting to finish off her high school career on the podium at Silver Spurs.

Notable losses (Graduation/Transfer): Beatriz Da Cunha, 20-9, D6.

Notable returning wrestlers: Abigail Lespinasse, Sr., 32-12, RQ, D2.

New wrestlers: Kensi Baez, Fr.

What they are saying: “Abby is in her third year. Abby is someone who's very cognizant of what she does. She knows what she needs to do.She's very physically strong and she's started to put it together at the end of last year. It's just with her sometimes getting in little weird positions can mess with her. Part of it is getting her to the right weight class. The other part of it is just kind of calming down and just understanding positional awareness which is something she was kind of getting better at the end of the year.”

On freshman Kensi Baez: “She has competed in ju-jitsu and she's just come into the wrestling room and I mean for a freshman she has an incredible level of coachability, focus, all the intangibles that you kind of look for. I'm really excited to see where she goes.”

Outlook: Lespinasse has shown the ability to compete with the high level girls in the state and if she can put it together this season, she’ll be in Kissimmee battling for a podium spot.

Notable losses (Graduation/Transfer): Dynasty Gass, 14-5, RQ, DC.

Notable returning wrestlers: Achelie Innocent, Sr., 16-10, RQ, D4; Loida Nina, Sr., 10-8, RQ, D4.

What they are saying: “Both girls have been going at it for the whole summer. It's the same outcome as the boys. I speak to them all the time and say let's go one step better than what we did last year. They're both are two-time regional qualifiers and in tough weight classes and I tell them we're shooting for the stars as well. My job is to get you to the state tournament. That's my job and we're going to work hard at it.”

Outlook: Only two girls are on the team entering the season and while they’ll look to build numbers, you also have two girls with their sights set on Kissimmee.

What they are saying: “Diana has been a super advocate for wrestling in the school. She's been very helpful. She came along last year and was kind of a shy girl. After one season of wrestling and she's was an extreme confidence boost. When I talked to her, she said, 'Yeah, I just wanted to get into it because, something do something out of my comfort zone.' I said, 'This is the most out of comfort zone thing you could do.' She's definitely done a 180 from a confident standpoint. She's now obsessed with wrestling."
