What they are saying: “We lost a great group of seniors that lead from the front. Now the younger kids need to setup and lead this team. We have a great group of kids that are willing to put in the work during the season and off-season.”
Fun fact: Last year’s district title for Episcopal was the first for the school since 2009.
Outlook: With only two seniors in the lineup this season, the Eagles will be young, but under the leadership of Ikeda, the team’s work ethic will have them competing for a back-to-back district title.

New wrestler: Ralph Cuartero, Fr. (Transfer from St. Johns Country Day)
What they are saying: “This year’s team will be a bunch of new faces but not new wrestlers. We have for the first time in my 16-year coaching career, five new kids that are entering the BK wrestling program with experience on the wrestling mat. Personally, I am excited to get the chance to work with these young individuals. What I have seen so far in club is exciting.”
On culture: “There is a culture in the wrestling program of Bishop Kenny that has remained in place through successful seasons and not so successful seasons. It is accountability, honesty, and compassion. It is easy when we are winning, harder when we are not, but the parents, the administration, and the coaching staff are all committed to maintaining this.”
On Dylan Lunsford: “The kid is on a mission. Tough, intelligent, and a good kid. He worked hard all summer rehabbing his injury and wrestling. He will make some noise this season. I am so inspired by him that I will put anything I can to help him achieve his goals.”
Outlook: Lunsford will lead the way as he looks for a podium finish.

New wrestlers: Roman Ortez, Sr., 13-7, RQ-BR, D2 (Transfer from Fleming Island); Bryce Fiore, 7th; Jacob Israel (Transfer from Massachusetts); Wyatt Martin
What they are saying: “While we dont have the numbers to be able to compete in a dual, we have some hammers that are going to do some damage at IBT with points.”
Outlook: This small group has some big goals this year with Hill, Ortez, and Fiore all looking to make the state finals. Hill is back healthy and Ortez battled hard in the region semifinals last year against the eventual state finalist. Fiore has been a wrecking ball on the national scene with wins at the Super 32 and Tulsa Nationals and is nationally ranked as a middle schooler.

Coach: Matthew Page (2nd season/5th total)
Assistant coach: Justin Rigdon, Eric Stone

What they are saying: “This is Year 2 of the program with a lot of young talent. Last year we had three regional qualifiers with two of them being district runners-up. We are still in the building phase but we came into the scene with a bang and expect to continue to build on that momentum this year.”
On Alexander McKay: “My team captain was a regional qualifier last year. His first match at district, he had to go against the number one seed and just annihilated him and ended up being a district runner up. I'm excited about him. He's been here with me for the last few months working on things and I expect him to be a state qualifier this year. I mean, we don't want anything less than that.”
On it being Year 2: “Should be a lot less moving pieces after trying to get everything up and running and things funded. The school was willing to make accommodations for space to start the program and they were excited about it, but it just needed somebody to head it all up and raise the money because mats aren't cheap and to get everything off the ground. So, not having to do all of that this year, I’m very excited about that.”
Outlook: The young team earned respect last year in their debut season and this year they’ll look to keep building in that positive direction.
