3A-6 Preview: Orlando Freedom looks to replace some firepower and win again
"The standard was kind of set last year and I don't think anybody has any plans of letting it change.” Orlando Freedom coach David Bush said. “I think the coaching staff and the kids are ready to go and know that we need to keep building this and we need to keep staying on the right track and win district titles, region championships, state champs, the duals. I'm excited for the duals. I think we do have depth. just like the girls team, we have flexibility. It's finding where everybody's going to go in the lineup but we have ability to move things around where needed."

What they’re saying: “We lost a lot of great seniors on the boys and girls team who were very seasoned wrestlers; however, this year it is the next person up mentality. We have a lot of wrestlers who have been waiting for their chance to fill those spots and we believe they are ready.”
Who to watch: "Kingsley Mincer and Magnum Colon are really putting a lot of effort in this summer. Colon was in that overtime double overtime match at regionals in the semis and dislocated his elbow. and that ended his season. I think he's been bitter about that. He's getting his opportunity, healing up, and coming back after a season where we felt he would make the podium and it got cut short. He's eager to be back. Mincer has kind of made a name for himself this summer, so I don't think he's out to surprise anybody, but he really had a good sophomore season last year."
On the youth stepping in: "There's a lot of people that are going to be in the lineup that had a little bit of success last year, but weren't in the lineup. You can go to tournament, you can bring like two or four extras and they're those kind of people, but they're making the podium or they're competing with good kids and they just haven't been that prime spotlight yet. But we did a good job getting them exposure last year, getting those varsity matches, and I think they'll do well, they've been working really hard in the summer."

Many have been working in the offseason and competing some favorable changes in our district may allow us to make some extra noise at the regional and state levels. We have most of our lineup returning and should be a more technical and physically stronger team after an offseason in the weight room.”
On restarting the program last year: "It's my first time being a head coach, so that's been interesting and I've been trying to get some resources back. They weren't planning on bringing the program back for a while, so they had turned the old wrestling room into a dance room and they put us in the old dance room, which is the wrestling room now. We actually were able to get a second wrestling room because we just got a ton of kids to come out last year. We had a great response from the kids. They were really excited about wrestling coming back and we just got to the point where we went to our AD and we were like just come look at how many kids are in this room. You have to give us something else."
On Isaac and Mathias: "They've both done jiu jitsu their whole lives and if wrestling was back earlier, they both would have been doing it their entire high school careers. To see those kids and just build on the skills they already had, it made it super easy for me to just come in and teach them the details of wrestling, because they already understood some of the grappling aspects and just go from there."
Outlook: The coaching staff is not just intent on building a program, they’re going to do it with a nod to the history at the school too.
