2A-15 Preview: Two state champions to pace district, battle for top spots
BY BRANT PARSONS — One of the biggest moves of the reclassification this offseason was putting Somerset and Mater Lakes together in 2A-15.
The two teams have combined to win the past three Class 1A IBT titles and in 2025, Somerset won the Class 2A title.
Kabra Wrestling Rankings are updated every week all season long for Kabra+ members.
Last season: Archbishop McCarthy brought home nine district champions and won the district by almost 100 points, 260-167 over runner-up Dillard.
How did Kabra do?: We nailed the big season that Archbishop McCarthy had, picking them to win both district competitions. We weren’t as sharp with the rest of the district with Dillard and Deerfield Beach having solid seasons and going 2-3.

Wrestlers to watch: Caio Sainz, 7th (Somerset); Joseph Scott, Sr. (Mater Lakes Academy); Carlos Sainz, So. (Somerset); Chris Greene, Sr. (Mater Lakes Academy); Darion Shannon, Sr. (Somerset); Dylan Fernandez, Sr. (Somerset); Cesar Aguilar, Jr. (Mater Lakes Academy); Sidney Katz, Jr. (Somerset); Mason O'Dell, Jr. (Mater Lakes Academy); Eli Diaz, Sr. (Somerset); Deaven Montanez, Jr. (Archbishop McCarthy); Jayden Rivas, Sr. (Miramar); Marlo Jimenez, Sr. (Somerset); Daniel Perez, Sr. (Mater Lakes Academy); Zachary Chemerisov, 8th (Mater Lakes Academy); Chris Smith, Sr. (Archbishop McCarthy); Jacob Rhodes, Jr. (Mater Lakes Academy).
The favorite: Somerset. The Panthers said goodbye to two state champions but return six state placers and as what has become a habit for Somerset, they’ll reload with more young talent.
Team to watch: Mater Lakes. There is a different look for the Bears after winning two-straight Class 1A double championships, but there is still a lot of talent in the room.

What they’re saying:
Outlook: What happens when a two-time defending state champion graduates two state champions, has three coaches move to new school, and has three state finalists transfer out? A chip grows on the shoulder. This newly vamped team is hungry to proved the doubters wrong as the Bears look to continue their statewide success.
