BY BRANT PARSONS — The FHSAA girls wrestling postseason continued on Wednesday with four districts taking place.

Wellington, South Broward, and Sandalwood continued their winning streaks while Gibbs made some school history.

Wellington makes it five-for-five

Four champions powered Wellington to a fifth-straight team district title in girls wrestling.

Lanicia Santana (100), Summer Loucks (115), Lana Loucks (120), and Sophia Reyes (135) all won individual crowns for the Wolverines, who have won each of the district competitions that have been held.

Runner-up Douglas finished with three champions. Samantha De Gance (140), Ariana Blanc (170), and Zeinab Mourad (235) brought home the gold medal for the Eagles.

Olympic Heights, who finished in third place as a team, had two champions with Paola Blanco-Cruz (125) and Allison Blanco-Cruz (145) finishing atop the podium. Park Vista also had a pair of champions with Gabi Nathan (105) and Rose Karakolis (130) finishing first.

Boca Raton’s Daria Cheremisina (110), Forest Hill’s Christal Desir (155), and Royal Palm Beach’s Gioconda Alegria (190) rounded out the individual champions list.

The top-ranked Desir improved to 22-0 on the season.

Deep South Broward earns third straight

South Broward didn’t finish with an individual champion on Wednesday, but the collective effort of the team gave the Bulldogs their third straight district crown.

“We took some tough losses with our top wrestlers but overall as a team, we had 12 of our 14 girls score points for us,” South Broward coach Major Threlkeld said. “We have a big roster for a girls team and even had two wrestle offs this week to see who would wrestle this week for us.”

Aubrey Morsillo (130), Nayara Stubna (135), and Quaniya Lowry (235) led the way for the Bulldogs with second place finishes.

Angie Romero (105), Sabrina Posada (110), Arrianna Anzules (115), Mia Figueroa (140), Angelia Arroyo (155), and Laytoya Sylvestre (190) all had third place efforts for South Broward.

“This championship was truly a team effort.”

Team runner-up Mater Lakes finished with five individual champions. Paola Perez (100), LilyAna Calzadilla (110), Arianna Ruiz (125), Juliett Morales (135), and Alena Rik (145) all won district titles for the Bears.

It was district title number four for Rik and Ruiz.

Third place Western also had multiple champions with Tiffany Francisco (105) and Averie Canals (130) finishing atop the podium.

Miami Norland finished with two champions with Belindina Lucce (115) and Nayeli Chinique (140) earning the crown.

The win for Chinique (shown, right) secured a spot in the four-time champion club with a thrilling sudden victory win in the final.

Other district title winners were Archbishop McCarthy’s Kailea Villavicencio (120), Piper’s London Yelder (155), Dr. Krop’s Jada Haughton (170), Taravella’s Arheanna Bryan (190), and Flanagan’s Kaylie Eugene (235).

Sandalwood repeats behind four champions

The Saints advanced eight total wrestlers to the regions as they outscored Fletcher by 42 points.

Fletcher automatically advanced seven wrestlers to next weekend with Lolo Jones (110) winning an individual title for the Senators.

Third place Columbia finished with two champions with Bella Guerrier-Lajoir (140) improving to 29-0 on the season and freshman Leah Brown (190) winning a crown.

West Nassau’s Casen Gaskins (100), Westside’s Jaleah Terry (115), Fernandina Beach’s Anjana Sermadevi (120), First Coast’s Marley Young (145) and Lilian Ison (155), Ed White’s Taniyah McKinstry (170), and Suwannee’s Hanalee Corbin (235) all won district titles.

Gibbs captures first girls district crown

The Gibbs girls wrestling team made history on Wednesday, winning the school’s first district team title.

All 10 Gibbs wrestlers scored points to lead the team to a three point win over Palm Harbor University and 7.5 points ahead of third place Pinellas Park.

In total, the Spartans advanced six wrestlers to next weekend’s region tournament led by second-place finisher Lacasey Williams (100).

The Hurricanes only brought five wrestlers to the tournament but finished in second on the strength of four individual champions.

Sophie Booe (100), Alyssa Rodriguez (110), Addison Hartley (130), and Desana Dashi (140) all earned a spot at the top of their weight class’ podium.

It was the fourth career district title for Booe.

Pinellas Park hadn’t competed in a girls district tournament since 2022 and the Patriots returned with a bang, finishing in third place and having Brooklyn Bell (155) win an individual title.

Admiral Farragut’s Vanessa Whitelock (120) and Riley Lancaster (170) both set a mark with their fourth individual career district title with their wins.

Countryside’s Joslyn Smith (105) and Devincia Isidore (145), St. Pete Catholic’s Kamya Sanders (115), Robinson’s Arianna Houghtaling (125), Jefferson’s Angela Bazan (135), Northeast’s Aliyah Hodge (190), and Boca Ciega’s Sabrina Richards (235) all won individual titles.
