13 matches to watch in Thursday’s districts | Full district schedule

BY BRANT PARSONS — The exciting Florida high school wrestling postseason continues on Thursday with five districts crowning champions.

Orlando Freedom and South Dade will be looking at adding a fifth district title to their trophy cases while multiple teams will be battling for the team titles in 1A-4, 1A-9 and 1A-13.

Matches to watch

We can’t promise that these will happen as we may not know of intended weight class changes or those who are injured — but if these matches take place, we think they’ll be ones to watch.

G1A-4

125: #13 Claudia La Costa Perez (Oviedo) vs. #14 R'Cardenay Michel (Matanzas) vs. #17 Raegan Hatch (Deltona)

La Costa Perez beat Michel 5-3 in the single meeting this season and while Michel has two wins this season over Hatch, the Deltona senior will look to make her mark in this weight class too.

155: #2 Zaria Slater (Lake Mary) vs. #14 Dagmarelin Sor.-Vasquez (Lake Brantley)

Slater is 2-0 in matches between the two this season but the last one was closer than the first, a 16-9 decision.

190: #9 Eva Kavaja (Hagerty) vs. #11 Hailey Mitchell (Oviedo)

These two have split their meetings this season with Mitchell winning the first by a fall and Kavaja winning the most recent.

120: #23 Isabella Barrera (Orlando Freedom) vs. #24 Marlee Karounos (Horizon)

These two have met this season with Barrera coming out on top, they could be on track for a second meeting today.

145: #4 Sariah Franco (Orlando Cypress Creek) vs. #7 Ceajah Brown (Orlando Freedom)

A top ten meeting could take place in the final between these two wrestlers who have split their meetings this season. Franco won by a major decision and Brown's win was a 13-10 decision.

G1A-9

110: #9 Jordan Delgrace (Strawberry Crest) vs. #13 Dalila Amar (Morgan)

They met twice in the postseason last year, with each getting a win, but Amar's victory coming in the blood round at the region tournament. Delgrace has a win in their only meeting this season, but they've shown that they can thrill in the postseason.

140: #7 Naomi Luna (Morgan) vs. #8 Tatiana Ruiz Hernandez (Bloomingdale)

Two of the top wrestlers in the weight class this season could meet here, with Luna owning a major decision win from the season.

145: #10 Shreevidya Rohini (Chamberlain) vs. #15 Lilyanna Nolan (Sumner) vs. #16 Ava Wilcox (Lennard)

Rohini has two wins over Nolan and Nolan has two wins over Wilcox.

120: #6 Caitlin Bohrer (Fort Pierce Central) vs. #11 Khloe Cook (Sebastian River)

An intriguing match if they meet up, Bohrer is looking to break through the region blood round for the first time this season and the freshman Cook has had a wonderful first season of high school competition.

125: #8 Suzie Polidor (North Miami) vs. #10 Cameron Echeverria (Miami Beach)

Polidor has dominated the three matches between the two this season but this could still be a top 10 meeting in the finals.

135: #3 Eysis Estes-Brinson (Miami Palmetto) vs. #4 Shamari Smith (South Dade)

The GMAC final between the two went deep into overtime before Estes-Brinson emerged victorious.

155: #7 Viktoriya Devochkina (North Miami) vs. #9 Valentina Mora (Miami Beach)

Devochkina won a close 3-1 dual between the two in the GMAC finals.

235: #1 Camila Halaby-Bravo (Florida Christian) vs. #2 Kenzie Barrett (South Dade)

The Florida Christian junior won the only match this season between the two.
