BY BRANT PARSONS — Gulf Breeze’s Madison Carroll made a statement last weekend, winning first place at the Queen of the South tournament.

It also earned her your vote in this week’s Reader’s Choice Wrestler of the Week.

The win was a follow-up for the 100-pound junior from a second-place finish at the Rotary Classic to kick off the season.

Carroll, who also trains in BJJ, will be competing this weekend at the Christmas Knockout Classic and try to continue to prove that a trip to Kissimmee with the eyes on a podium is an expected end-year goal.

“She goes above and beyond in her training,” Lynette Deeds said in her nomination of Carroll. “This could be her breakthrough year.”
