BY BRANT PARSONS — Wakulla’s William Harvey continued his great start to the season with a tournament win at the Ryan Blackwell Invitational and that performance earned him the Reader’s Choice Wrestler of the Week honor.
So far this season, the senior 126-pounder has beaten a Georgia state finalist and has multiple wins against highly-ranked Florida opponents.
“William’s growth this season has come from the work he puts in daily and the mindset he carries into competition,” Wakulla head coach Nathan Litowsky said. “He competes with the confidence of someone who knows he’s prepared.”
While Harvey did not enter the season completely unknown after being a region champion and state qualifier last season, his performance has gotten the attention of others, even if his coach is not surprised.
“His recent success may be surprising to others, but it hasn’t been to me,” Litowsky said. “When you see the consistency, discipline, and effort he brings to the room, results like this make sense.”
The success on the mat spreads throughout Harvey’s life where he excels in a leadership position and in the classroom.
“He puts the team first, wants the best for everyone around him, and carries himself the right way daily,” Litowsky said. “He’s also an excellent student, and that discipline in the classroom directly carries over to his success on the mat.”
