District duals: Heritage is tops in 2A-13 | Bloomingdale wins

Published Tuesday, January 6, 2026

BY BRANT PARSONS — After a disappointing 2024-25 wrestling season, Heritage set out to restore its status as a gritty, hard-nosed team. On Monday, the Panthers showed they’re on the path to bring that back, winning the 2A-13 district duals title.

“Sebastian River has a similar philosophy to us and Tom’s a fantastic coach,” Heritage coach Jeff Degginger said. “To regain the title from them was a big step in the right direction.”

The Panthers topped the Sharks 60-23 in the deciding dual.

Sieryous Peterson (120), Aydan Smith (126), Kyle Wingler (138), Camari Riche (157), William Davis (165), Brendon Whiting (175), Matt Moise (215), and James Scott (285) all picked up wins by fall for Heritage. The Panthers also got forfeit wins from Angel Tollinchi (132) and Benjamin Gordon (190).

Sebastian River’s Eli Maldonado (106), Austin Douglass (113), Reed Holtz (144), and Maverick Mock (150) all scored wins for the Sharks.

Both teams will advance to next Thursday’s region quarterfinal and semifinal rounds to be held at Heritage. Heritage will open with 2A-14 runner-up Port St. Lucie and district champion Jensen Beach will face Sebastian River.

“It’s way too early in the season to get overexcited,” Degginger said. “Your only easy match was the last one and the toughest match you will ever face is the next one.”
