BY BRANT PARSONS — The FHSAA wrestling postseason continues with six boys district tournaments on Wednesday.

Matches to watch

We can’t promise that these will happen as we may not know of intended weight class changes or those who are injured — but if these matches take place, we think they’ll be ones to watch.

3A-3

150: #23 Donavan Bain (Oviedo) vs. #24 Aurelio Gutierrez (Hagerty)

Bain won their meeting by a major decision this season.

235: #9 Morgan Hill (Lake Howell) vs. #13 Jakari Upshaw (Evans)

This likely takes place in the semifinal with the winner getting Hagerty’s top-ranked Renzo Cooligan in the final. Hill won the meeting between the two by fall this season.

126: #4 Gary Jackson (Miami Palmetto) vs. #5 Jose Callava (South Dade)

This would be a semifinal to watch if it happens with Jovanni Tovar at the top of this bracket. Callava is 2-1 against Jackson on the season, but the Palmetto sophomore won their last meeting by major decision.

150: #1 Armand Williams (South Dade) vs. #4 Nelson Heud (SW Miami)

The two matches they’ve had in our records have them finishing 10-6 and in sudden victory, with the defending state champion Williams prevailing in each.

165: #1 Andres Rojas (Miami Southridge) vs. #2 Drake Bonney (Miami Palmetto) vs. #4 Jonathan Moreno (SW Miami)

Rojas had a three-point win over Moreno and the Southridge sophomore went 1-1 with Bonney according to our records. Any mixture of these in a match against each other will be must see.

150: #13 Daniel De Almeida (Ponte Vedra) vs. #15 Asher Reaves (Clay)

According to our records, this would be their first meeting. It should be a good one.

175: #15 Drew Loveland (Clay) vs. #16 Zion Longmire (Fleming Island)

Loveland owns a major decision win between the two from this season.

113: #3 Gary Mendez (Mater Academy) vs. #5 Cano Austin (Somerset)

The returning state finalist from Mater Academy has a four-point win over Austin this season.

132: #1 Carlos Sainz (Somerset) vs. #4 Lucas Barrios (Mater Academy)

The one time we have on record that they faced each other this season, Sainz was a 3-1 winner by decision.

190: #4 Arron McCarty (Robinson) vs. #8 Koletin Washington (Chamberlain)

The two state qualifiers from last year could meet in the finals, but watch for SLAM Tampa’s Ari Rupe to factor into that.

235: #6 Tyce Cole (Jefferson) vs. #8 Nathanael Lovelace (Berkeley Prep)

Both wrestlers have had monster seasons and in their one meeting, Cole came out on top.

When they met in last year’s district final, Dean came out on top with a major decision victory.
