Teams to watch in Class 2A this coming season
BY BRANT PARSONS — At Kabra Wrestling, we started working on content for the 2026-2027 high school wrestling season before we even drove home from Kissimmee in March.
While working on the preview, a few teams have stood out as being ready for a big season.
These are teams that could see a large number of starters back from last year and we’ve picked to have a notable year.
Each team stands out for its own reasons and the only criteria we had in picking was that it couldn’t be a team that finished in the Top 10 at state last season.
BARRON COLLIER COUGARS
Every postseason wrestler could return for Barron Collier next season. The 161.5 points coming back are the second most in the Cougars’ district and they should be in contention for their first team title since 2023.
CLAY BLUE DEVILS
The Blue Devils are building it back and next season could have the third-most returning district points in Class 2A. State placers Jayshawn McCloud, Landon Martin, and Calvyn St. Clair all return for a senior year with a higher spot on the podium in their sights. Clay also returns a deep group of wrestlers that could join those three and Liam Soto in Kissimmee.
HERITAGE PANTHERS
The Panthers bounced back last season with a district title and now they have 11 of those wrestlers potentially coming back. Led by Camari Riche, Seyrious Peterson, and Matt Moise, Heritage should have a bigger group heading to Kissimmee come March.
HOLLINS ROYALS
The Royals are no strangers to recent success, having won two consecutive district titles. Now Hollins can look for some bigger prizes with one of the highest number of postseason points back in Class 2A.
LINCOLN TROJANS
Lincoln could return the most district points in a highly-contested team race in 2A-2 and the room is deep with wrestlers ready to step in. The Trojans have three state qualifiers back with Juan Torres and Luke Rodriguez leading the way. Those two finished on the podium and get another shot to move up it this year.
MOUNT DORA HURRICANES
The Hurricanes moved up to Class 2A and have a veteran group that is poised to win the school’s first district title since 2022. Damien Quinonez leads the way as a returning state qualifier with region blood-round participants Sam Mohammadi and Kaleb Olson also powering a deep room.
WEEKI WACHEE HORNETS
The Hornets entire postseason lineup could be back in the room as the team jumps up to Class 2A. Led by state placers Jashaun Contegiacomo and Levi Chancey, Weeki Wachee enters the season as a favorite to win the district title, which would be the school’s fourth in five seasons and first in 2A.
