Friday matches we’d love to see | State duals

BY BRANT PARSONS — The FHSAA state duals tournament is this weekend at Kissimmee Osceola High School.

The gym will be loaded with some of the best wrestlers in the state and some will face each other.

Now we know that shaking and baking is a big part of the state duals experience as coaches look for the best matchups to give their teams the best possible scenario for points.

But in a perfect world, these are some of the bouts we’d get to see on Friday.

Class 3A

#6 Flagler Palm Coast vs. #2 Hagerty

The freshman battle at 113 intrigues us and a top five matchup at 126 wouldn’t disappoint.

113: #7 Kevin McLean vs. #4 Brentley Crawley

126: #5 Robert Twilley vs. #4 Hunter Jessee

#7 Kissimmee Osceola vs. #3 Wellington

This dual could come down to bonus points and winners of close matches - and these could be two of those really close matches.

157: #4 Jonathan Olmo vs. #6 James Kosza

132: #23 Diaaeldin Elghonemy vs. #21 Kai Benedetti

#10 George Jenkins vs. #20 Palmetto

This is a statement dual for both teams and each of the potential bouts would be statement wins for the winner.

113: #9 Andrew Taylor vs. #14 Sean Herlihy

175: #20 Jackson Lietz vs. #19 Garrett Pyle

#18 Douglas vs. #1 South Dade

South Dade comes in loaded for its seventh state title run, but there are two bouts on Friday that could be interesting.

120: #5 Rocco Duygulu vs. #3 Kaleb Williams

126: #1 David Leiva vs. #3 Guillermo Jaramillo

#7 Middleburg vs. #6 Clay

Loveland has two wins over Stacy this season including a 10-9 decision in their first meeting.

215: #1 Porter Loveland vs. #2 Aaron Stacy

157: #3 Wyatt Leduc vs. #5 Drew Holmquist

#8 Braden River vs. #3 Charlotte

The Charlotte wrestlers are a combined 3-0 against their listed Pirate opponents here and if Braden River is going to contend in this dual, these guys will need big wins.

120: #5 Matthew Ireland vs. #3 Jake Austin

126: #15 Jaden Morales vs. #12 Evan Cope

#2 Tampa Jesuit vs. #1 Lake Gibson

The dual to watch on Friday should have 11-14 tight matches. In one possible 1-2 meeting, Oliver topped 7-6 Albo when they met at Knockout.

144: #2 Xavier Albo vs. #1 Jaiden Oliver

165: #1 Draven McCall vs. #2 Husam Mustafa

#5 Jensen Beach vs. #4 Somerset

We anticipate some shuffling of lineups in this one, but both of these bouts should be fun to watch.

106: #8 Trey Viens vs. #6 Cano Austin

132: #11 Ben Norris vs. #8 Dylan Fernandez

#4 Suwannee vs. #8 Yulee

I know there’s a 7% chance for a weight to be picked for the starting one, but Yulee could get some points early if this dual starts at 165.

165: #9 Torynn Johns vs. #5 Michael McNair

285: #12 Holden Corbin vs. #6 Cayden Ricks

#13 Anclote vs. #5 St. John Neumann

This weekend should be a great experience for the young Sharks and they have some wrestlers excited to test where they are against the Celtics.

144: #18 Julian Bell vs. #19 Jordan Blomberg

120: #18 Thomas Kupsch vs. #5 William McGowan

#7 Hernando vs. #2 Merritt Island

Merritt Island enters the weekend riding a fantastic wave from last week. These are some potential matches that could make this dual interesting.

175: #6 Shaw Garrett vs. #5 Tre Driggett

215: #4 Kian Blyss vs. #12 Dominick Smith

#1 Mater Lakes vs. #14 Key West

It seems Key West always finds a solid heavyweight and the sophomore Allens has shown signs of a breakout.

285: #20 Emiliano Solache vs. #24 Alexandre Allens

144: #15 Bruce Li vs. #20 James Searcy
