Orlando Freedom, Hernando and Harmony girls open season with tournament titles

BY BRANT PARSONS — Orlando Freedom made an early-season statement, running away with a big win at the Flagler Rotary Girls Invitational at Flagler Palm Coast.

The Patriots (#2 IBT team in Kabra Wrestling’s rankings) scored 198.5 points, 49 points more than runner-up Viera.

“It’s the first tournament of the year and we are happy with a solid performance, but know we have areas to improve and look to get better each week,” Freedom coach David Bush said in a text.

Hernando starts season strong

After graduating nine starters from last year’s team, Hernando knew they would need to get points from new wrestlers this season.

On Tuesday, the new blood combined with a few returners and the Leopards took home first place at the Queens and showed that Hernando is still a force in girls wrestling.

Emerson Webber (110) and Addison Johnson (155) both finished in first place as the Leopards received points from all 12 wrestlers in their lineup.

Palm Harbor University finished in second place with Sophie Booe (100) and Addison Hartley (125) starting the year off with individual titles.
